AVIATRIX DOLL WITH PARACHUTE CELLULOID & SILK, Japan, 1930s Vintage

Description

This sweet-faced Japanese  celluloid aviatrix character doll is an Art Deco tribute to historic aviator Amelia Earhart, the first female to fly solo across the Atlantic, the l932 feat one of many "firsts".
She wears a gold-painted flight helmet and goggles, a khaki-collared navy blue coat, and holds a silver-painted airplane.   Overhead is a red silk parachute topped by any aqua silk pennant, the chute  attached by gold ribbons/cords to  a ring lock above the dolls head.
More finely detailed than most celluloid figures, this doll has chubby cheeks, pouty lips and large black eyes, all nicely painted and in good condition.   Impressed in the celluloid at base of back collar is "MADE IN JAPAN".    A plastic tube runs through the figure, connecting the parachute and doll, at the base of which is another little ring lock, holding her in place.   All in pristine, unused condition.
The little aviatrix is 3 3/4 inches tall by 1 3/8 inches wide.  The entire piece is 9 3/4 inches tall. The silk parachute spreads out to 10 1/2 inches in diameter.
This is a rare example of a Pre-War Japanese celluloid character doll with a unique theme and very fine detail and may have been a delightful Carnival prize for a little girl in the l930's.
